HDSS are geographically delineated locations and data covers the entire population in those locations. Each site is of different size. Individual The data includes complete populations - that is, individuals of all ages and sexes, and their event history. The residence variable included in the dataset indicates whether the individual is considered present or not in the HDSS site. Event history data The data from all sites are combined together and cleaned, to ensure consistency across sites. Cleaning includes correction for inconsistencies in events (such as a birth event after an out-migration), and removing individuals with important missing data (such as date of birth). Additionally, the data is prepared for event history analysis, including creating a variable of residence, and inserting five-year period events.
